Q: I'm sure you pros will get a laugh out of this one, but, will someone please recommend some good books on trading stocks and futures, for someone who wants to know something about it without going to community college and taking Economics 101? I would like to not be completely ignorant when approcaching a broker.

A: Asking for advise is never a foolish undertaking.
When we stop learning, we stagnate.
If you aspire to do your own market timing
and stock timing, I would strongly recommend
the following books:

Martin Zweigs Winning On Wall Street
Stock Market Logic (norman fosback)
Stan Weinstiens Secrets for Profiting
in

Bull and Bear Markets

These books are not new, but are unexcelled
nonetheless. Due to the unprecedented
protraction of the current bull market,
the timing of stocks and the market has become
a lost art. The first two books are based primarily
on market timing and the third book by Stan Weinstien,
is a great work on the technical timing of stock trades.

Read anything by Peter Lynch. Also, get the current annual report from
Berkshire Hathaway. If you have to go to a broker, remember you are
dealing with a salesman, not a market pro - you'll do better starting
with no-load mutual funds. If you're serious about trading, look at
Market Momentum by Martin Pring.

Try the Peter Lynch books for fundemental investing ideas. They won't
make you rich
quickly, but you will understand the way things work over the long haul.
Not hard to read and really written to build wealth over a several year
period. A good set to mix with other more technical books such as the
classic A Random Walk.
